AC Mitigation Changes – Bards and Clerics

At the summit I spoke briefly with Boanerges about cleric AC mitigation and the AC cap. The AC cap for clerics is higher than other priest classes, and at the time I also claimed that the return for AC over the cap was better for clerics over other priest classes. Looking over the data, I found this to be not true – currently clerics receive the same returns from AC over the cap as other priests.

After evaluating this today, we’ve decided to go ahead and increase the AC over the cap for clerics to match that of bards – so that bards and clerics will have both the same AC cap and same returns from AC over the cap, making their gains from AC be equal.

As far as bards are concerned, I also looked over the AC cap values for their class. Currently, the AC value for bards is set to the same values as that of monks and rogues. This seems to also be too low and after evaluation, bards will have the same cap as clerics, which is a higher value.

These two changes should give both clerics and bards more gains from AC from gear than before.

Interesting...

I'm not sure what the cap is. I'm not sure if Akselo is even close to the cap. But maybe this change will make a difference. I know that Aks can't take very many hits without getting squashed. Some days it feels like he takes damage as if I were playing my ranger.

Well higher AC only increases the likelihood of taking a hit in a mob's minimum hit range and lowers the chance of taking a maximum hit.

So you will really only see this as a noticable change on mobs with a large difference between their minimum and maximum hits and with noticeably higher AC.

i.e. Riftseekers ... min hit aroud 300 max hit aroud 1200.

When I was 1900 AC I took a lot of hits for 1200 ... now at 2100 AC I take a lot more 300 hits and far fewer 1200 hits.

Hopefully the change will be semi-noticable for you all Smile

Thanks for the explaination Phin. That makes alot more sense now.

For those times when you're in a bad pickup group, as the team's puller, and the tank dallies to strip the mob off you...those smaller hits may make a difference.

I dont' think I'm anywhere close to that AC range though. Something I'll work on.

Thanks again.
