I didn't read the entire article, but I disagree with Sony doing this. That's just wrong.

"Thanks for 50 bucks, have this game!"

"Thanks for 13 bucks a month, play this game!"

"Thanks for 30 bucks, have this expansion!"

"Thanks for 1,000 bucks, have this staff!"

On the other hand, part of me wants to see these people who make a living off of selling game items broken. If Sony selling these items would do it, I'd love to see it.

One of the very, very few things I liked about SWG is that there are very, very few items you could get that were better than player-made items. This caused for real competition, a reason to tradeskill, and a market for profit. If you earned the dough, you could buy the best stuff in the game. Then, you could concentrate on strategy and the 'fun' of things, rather than 'what you're going to get out of it.'

Of course, the system had flaws. A bug or an exploit could still break the economy, but the principle of that system was a good one, one that I'd support and enjoy playing.

While certainly not without flaws the Economic side of SWG was very cool I thought. People setup factories advertised and were amazingingly successful. Eventually these guys had huge sprawling factories and fancy shops to visit it was really pretty neat. Unfortunately it was so true to life that it became a huge burden running down resources and manufacturing items to stock in your store. The one guy in particular I'm thinking of was a weapons dealer and when he got online his store would have people lined up and bitching about the lack of weapons for sale as he was just over run with bussiness. He finally said screw it and quit.
