Once again, I'm experiencing PC issues. I load up the game, and between the character selection screen and getting in game, I lose my connection.

The symptoms I've noticed are the sound stuttering badly, and betweem the character selection screen and showing up in game, the sound loops. I can see the hard drive light staying solid when that happens rather than blinking rapidly like it normally does.

I updated my soundcard drivers to see if that would help, and it didn't. I'll be talking to EQ Tech Support this week to try and resolve it. Barring that, I'll have to reinstall the game. If that fails to correct the issue, I'll be reloading the OS once again. /gags

ALOT of people are having issues in PoK, I am actually going to bind myself in PoT I think until they get them sorted out. So if that's where you're logged out that might be part of the problem. I know Dane has client crashes about 3 times a day in PoK and I have at least one myself.

I have major issues in PoK with all of my toons. I generally have to F9 to overhead view to even move there, and if I forget to do that before I zone in I freeze up. SOE is aware of it and is "working" on it.

Have you made sure that the graphic card and sound card are not on the same IRQ ?

Actually, I believe they are on the same IRQ, but the hardware profiles show "no conflicts" in their properties. Maybe I'll toy around with that...

They are the biggest bandwidth hogs on the bus so keeping them on seperate IRQ's is always a good idea.

Well - my sound and video are on different IRQ and in fact different busses. But I still have TERRIBLE framerate in POK --- 2 different systems too.

I am bound there with most toons. Normally look down at my feet and guess where I am going.

Another thing is to completely disable sound in the hardware profile. Then try again.

Modern bus chipsets and processors are built with the capability to handle a feature known as IRQ sharing. This feature solves the issue of device number limits without any reasonable drawbacks. Even if your video card and sound card are on the same IRQ, it shouldn't make that much of a difference to you. They're still communicating with the processor on different channels, the bus is just naming them the same to save on processor inputs. There's physically no difference.

Windows XP by default will try and give video an unshared IRQ, so I highly doubt this will be an issue either way.

In any case, the problem is obviously not with your setup, as everyone is experience this problem and it is commonly known as a flaw with the game. If you want my advice, I'd try disabling your sound or using the default UI as troubleshooting before I'd swap processor interrupts.

Ok, here's an update:

After some research, I discovered the IRQs are not an issue for Win 2k and higher, since as Shane pointed out, they provide IRQ sharing. If there was a conflict, I'd see it under the Device Manager properties.

I disabled ALL the sound components and launched the game. I was able to actually get through the "disconnect" issue I was experiencing between the character selection screen and entering the world, but once I showed up in game, the graphics started rapidly flickering off and on until eventually I got a blue screen error that said, "IRQL Not Less Than Or Equal."

I also Emailed SOE tech support all the information they asked for regarding my system specs after speaking with them, including the results of disabling my sound components. But I haven't heard back from them yet.

As a side note, all my other games are working fine. Although Knights of the Old Republic gets an application error that boots me out of the game now and then, but I think that's a known game bug and unrelated to my current problems with EQ.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Sorry I'm unable to help with this issue, Sab. Sad

If I had the PC in front of me, I'd try reinstalling DirectX or installing motherboard drivers. Without more information, it'd be tough to say what I'd try.
