The Photo Album is finally installed and working. You can get to it with the nifty Album link on the top menu.
In the album, there are public categories, and personal galleries. Once you click on it and fool around, you'll see what all is available.
I intend to use this to replace the Screenshots forum. I like this module and several people agree with me because it solves the "host my picture!" problem.
There are sill many, many things I've yet to tweak with yet, so use any and all features on it that you want. Personal galleries at the current are restricted to Walkers members only. In addition, only Walkers members can view personal galleries.
Many of the current limitations I plan to loosen once I see how much it gets used, but one that will not be lifted is the fact that the Photo Album doesn't support the use of GIF images. Because of some copyright issues with the GIF compression format, the module that handles the auto-thumbnailing won't support GIFs. It does, however, support PNG files, which is basically an open-source format intended to replace GIF. If this is a huge problem for you, I'm sorry.  I'll see if I can't find some program and write up a nifty article to show you how to convert GIF images if you want to use those in the album.
Also, please leave feedback! I'm not going to know what to improve on or loosen if no one responds.

I like it alot! I just uploaded a bunch of pictures that I had been planning on posting here for a while from when I cleaned out my and Dane's EQ directories when they created the Screenshots folder a few patches back. Take a look, I hope you enjoy them!

If you upload into the existing "Screenshots" directory I think Shiloch told me this morning that there's a limit of 2000 pictures. Your own personal album can have only 10 so far. The pictures do have to conform to a size limitation I think it's 512k and 1024x768 pixels right now. |

The size limit is 500kb and the dimension limit is 1280 x 1024.
However, I respectfully ask you to reszie them to 1024 x 768 if they are that big, because the majority of the people that use this forum don't have screens that can display 1280 x 1024 legibly.
I will probably increase the personal gallery limits, but the categories is where I'd like to see screenshots and stuff.
Tyr hasn't given me any size limits yet, every time I confront him about how much space we're using, he always tells me how much space there is left on the disk. /chuckle
If it comes down to a space issue, perhaps I'll buy him a new disk!

Awesome concept, thanks for setting it up. I put up a few pictures of Sol Ro people have been hounding me for, along with a couple other neat/funny shots I found while looking at my files earlier.

Here's something else someone asked me:
512kb is the size limit per image, not your total quota. Most 1024 x 768 screenshots are in the 120kb-140kb area with pretty decent quality.
I think the technical readout on the exact limits of what you can upload is actually on the upload page, or something. |
