I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop with a Nvidia GE Force 2 Go card. I have installed the most up to date drivers from the Dell site. I installed Direct X 9.0b because I could not find any information saying that the card was incompatible with Direct X 9.

That being said, I have not been able to get logged on to EQ since the GoD expansion went live. I can sign on at the connect screen, but when I hit enter (or click ok), I get no immediate message saying that it is connecting, and it grinds down to a snail's pace. When it finally (after several minutes) gets to the server screen, I can hardly get my mouse to move at all, and after it painfully slowly moves to the play button, I cannot get it to click and play. Then, when I hit enter and it finally does act like it will begin the startup process, I eventually get an Error 1017. (There was only one time where the loading screen began to run, however it was at the slowest pace I have ever encountered and after 20 min it quit again).

If you can shed any light on this, I would love to hear it. I've never had a problem like this be so completely unresolvable where I could not even get EQ to run at all. Tomorrow will be 1 week that I haven't been able to play on my laptop.

Hmm, well... first thing's first I guess. Make sure that you're positively not running any type of antivirus software while you play. Secondly, make sure that QoS Packet Scheduler is uninstalled from your Network Connections.

If you'd post your dxdiag so I can see your driver versions, I might be able to see something from that very quickly. Cool

Have you tried the 53.03 nVidia drivers from www.nvidia.com ?

That's a good config, this shouldn't be hard to figure out.

I originally downloaded that file and tried to install it on the laptop, however it would not install those latest drivers. Then I went to the Nvidia site, and it stated that for the card that I have (Nvidia GE Force 2 Go) that I needed to go to the Dell site to get the latest drivers. I then went to the Dell site and got the latest driver from Dell for this card and installed it. So, I think I have the most up to date drivers that I can get.

In reviewing the Sony technical support site, this is appearing to be a problem that is occurring with a lot of Nvidia card owners (even the more recent cards). So, it might be something on Sony's end that will need to be fixed. Pre GoD release, no problems. Post GoD, I cannot get in game at all.

But, no problems at all post GoD on main Desktop which runs ATI Radeon 9700 Pro.

Out of curiosity, was that laptop upgraded from another OS - namely Win98 or WinME?

Crap. I still can't get my laptop to run, and nothing I have tried has helped. This is really starting to suck.

As a curiosity, have you sent this issue into SOE?

Here is a newer version of the Video drivers for that video card, from dell.
HERE Download these and see if this corrects the problem.

Also, do you have Everquest installed on C or D drive? the game has been known to have these exact problems when either the OS and EQ or installed on diffrent Drives or Partitions away from each other, or if the Virtual Memory is lower than 500mb or the VM has been moved to another Drive or Partition away from the OS installed drive.

Hope this helps ya. GL! Cool

Sorry I haven't been more helpful, Xan. I've been stuck doing really crappy warehouse work for the past 10 days or so. Embarassed

Defrag is about next to pointless, waste of hard drive spins!

I have been obscessed with this for many days. Thanks Zaz, I only have a C drive on the laptop and I got the latest driver from the site you linked. I have tried Sony's technical support, however they don't formally support laptops, so I haven't gotten any responses from anyone official. I have been scouring the tech board, and I have found threads where people have had similar problems, but nothing I have tried so far is working. I believe it is a problem with my graphics card or that my cpu resources are suddenly all utilized upon trying to get EQ to run. I thought it might have been a virus or the spyware crap but I have run the ad aware utilities multiple times and have it clear as far as I can tell. I don't know if maybe my card is not compatible with Direct X 9.

Someone on one thread mentioned a program that detects how your cpu's are being utilized when you run EQ. Does anyone have any ideas about these programs?

It just seems to me that there ought to be some way to get EQ to run again on this laptop.

Is this problem only with EQ, or are other applications being crappy too?

Also, in your Windows settings, what do you have the paging file set to? If your paging file is off, try turning it back on to let windows configure the paging file size (or something similar to that).

As a last ditch effort, some computer stores can test your memmory modules for you to see if they are good / bad. Bad memory is evil, and will screw with system performance big time. They're gonna charge you for this though, I'm sure.

I'm just throwing out ideas bro, I can't think of anything else which might be causing your problem. You might want to take it to a church and have them banish the evil demons from your system.
