In fact, I tend to read phrases not just words. Familiar sentences become just the 1st and last words, plus any nouns or names + a verb or two.

Look..........Whizbang.........plotzing........destroy........telescope.

Like that.

It is interesting to actually realize we do that, though. I hadn't thought on it too much.

Unfortunately, this gives ammunition to the educators who insist that not learning to read using phonetics is perfectly fine, and that kids should instead concentrate on rote memorization of words, the "whole word" method. Blah.

I'm not sure Whiz. I think it's natural to look at something and recognize it as a symbol with a meaning, even a string of letters. Take ancient Chineese, Egyptian, Aztec, etc languages for example. All of these, to my knowledge, use charactures / symbols to convey words and meanings. I'm guessing this type of communication was around long before phonic alphabets were invented.

However, I agree with you Whiz.

I'm going to test to see if I use this style of spelling on a slow announcement during a raid, if it draws more attention to the message. If it does, I'll propose we all go to this style of announcement, and that it be manditory we use open channels. (Especially /shout)

Those researchers are wrong. It takes me much longer to read something poorly written then a proper sentence. It is a problem.

And if you ask me for a hasty bfuf, that's exactly what I'm going to give you.

I'm sure people spoke before culture was invented too.

No, I think it's facinating, but I hate the ramifications of it. I'm with Whiz on this one, the written word is much more sacred that society would like for us to believe nowadays.
