There's some EQ Windows program floating around out there, but I haven't used it myself -- personally, I wish VI would get their bug out of their butt about enabling this as part of the core program, since the folks who are going to cheat will cheat without their help, and everyone else would like to be able to alt-tab out to e-mail or whatever as well.
I have Windows NT at work, and I can alt-tab out and SOMETIMES get back successfully to EQ, but less than half the time.

If your work environment is behind a firewall, EQ may not work anyway. Fieni Fired - Walkers of vazaelle |

I play EQ almost exclusively at work. A Netopia R9100 Router serves this subnet, using a NAT table. (Everything goes out, nothing comes in.)
I've tried EQW, but its seriously bugged with Win2k. If EQ changes screen resolution at all while its loaded, EQ crashes and you're back to square one. Since EQ loads up in 640 x 480, then switches off to your desired screen resolution (mine is 800 x 600), you're fooked. I didn't try it with 640 x 480 as the default resolution, because I have no desire to play EQ that way. You used to be able to hit the start menu key to get to windows, then use Task Manager to switch back in, but that hasn't worked well since the release of Luclin. I hated the day they did that, I used to switch out and look up stuff all the time, now you HAVE to have a 2nd PC to do it from. Umm...you could always just hit the power button....
And there's a feature in your .ini file you can set to stop the screen changing resolutions on you like that. I'll look into it and see if I can find it (set it so long ago...)
Now that I think of it, it may even be in the options section of the game itself...something like "All Screens Same Size" or something like that?

Must be nice to have the option to play EQ at work!!!!! It gets really boring checking quests and allakhazam and eq.everquest, etc. etc. all day while pretending to work. Thank goodness there are polls on this MB that keep me going throughout the day. ~San~ 56 Knight Sanebla's Magelo Profile Edited by: Sanebla Eaglestriker at: 5/7/02 9:16:41 am

She BROKE your games?
What a bitch. I can't imagine why anyone would do that. I've had bad break ups, I've never felt the need to go destroy her property. I'd sue the bitch. (I say this because I have purchased over 650 games, and if I had to replace them all.....)
Anyways, I checked out my eqclient.ini file, and the only line in there that looks like it does what we're talking about is this:
ScreenMode=FULL
It's under the DEFAULTS section of the file. I'm sure there's a way to set this in game, but that's how it looks in the file.
I used to have trouble with the game when it switched between video modes whenever I opened my spellbook... this fixed that. Hope it helps your problem too.
(Of course, I could be completely wrong here. Flame away, those in the know. "> ) |

Im a network admin so my job is to make sure the network is up. If it is up I can do what I want...regardless I dont like my boss to see me playing video games on his time. So I just got a KVM (Keyboard Mouse Video) switch. If he wanders in my office I just hit 2 keys on the keyboard it switches to another computer where there are dos prompts, file searches, and all sorts of other work-related things going on. This keeps him happy and lets me play EQ for 3-5 hours a day at work "> Not sure if you have more than one PC there, but if you do you might wanna try this. Costs under 100 bucks for 2 port one. Heeey, while we can pick your brain, any tips on "cleaning" up our computer at the end of the day so my boss doesn't detect my internet activity? I clean out my cache, history, and cookies. Anything else I should be doing? I don't look at porn sites or anything, but sometimes the signatures on message boards are very questionable or the threads I post on are not really appropriate for work (think VCC, etc).
I just want to cover my ass at work. |
