Why you can't sail from Odus to Faydwer

People have been known to wonder why, if Norrath is round, one cannot hop a boat in Erudin and sail from the continent of Odus to the continent of Faydwer directly.

The answer: There's stuff in the way.

In the Skyfire Mountains of Kunark, at the druid evac spell drop location to be precise, is a globe of Norrath. (The wizard evac location only affords one the view of the inside of a wurm's stomach.)

Here are four images from this globe:



First, we have Faydwer, Kunark below it, and Antonica to the west of both of them. Velious can be seen on the southern pole.



Second, we see Antonica, Odus and some islands west of Odus. Velious is prominent in the south, and there is something on the northern pole almost visibile from this angle. (I'm a gnome and can't see the top of the globe. Sorry!)



In this third image, we see a great swath of ocean between these western isles and a new continent, comparable in size and shape to Kunark. The Western Wastes of Velious are relatively close to the southern shores of this unknown continent.



Finally, there's another expanse of ocean between this continent and those of Faydwer and Kunark.

OK, one more image, of the north pole of Norrath.



Notice that in addition to what appear to be ice floes, there's also a rocky continent up there, for those intrepid explorers who havent' gotten enough snow between the Everfrost Peaks, the Dreadlands and the continent of Velious.

Thank you, Whizbang (btw, love your name *grin*)! I have been wondering about it when I would look at the maps provided for the continents.

I'm glad, also, to know this globe exists & am looking forward to a time I can see it myself. I just wish there were maps -in game- that could actually be prerused and viewed *sigh*.

God that map is so badly pasted onto that globe, i stare at it in horror when i port into skyfire, because you can see the edges of the picture they slapped on there, and its discollored and SIZED IMPROPERLY so you have a HUGE Gap between antonica and odus, the one way.. blech its ugly! and yeah they probably put those little islands there to make people thinkt hey would do something with them but they probably wont..
but anwyay. no history or anything mentions continents other than the ones there already are right? yet there are others. meh !

Update:

Here's a map posted in a war room in the Plane of Valor. Note that it appears to 100 percent match the Skyfire globe, allowing for the changes due to the way the map is drawn.

Well, maybe not 100 percent: Why are Velious and the western hemisphere islands red instead of green? And is that brown splotch north of Faydwer the polar continent or some sort of map legend?

And yes, it's from a low angle and tilted. I'm SHORT! SHADDUP!
