Old gaming buddies of mine from way back heard thru the grapevine that the original development team for Blizzard working on WOW have quit. Anyone heard anything about it?

Aye, it's true. Bill Roper included. Hopefully it doesn't affect the polish of Blizzard games.

Copy/Paste from Monkly-Business
Blizzard Entertainment, a studio of Vivendi Universal Games, took the slightly unusual step today of issuing a confirmation that four of its employees have left the company in order to pursue other opportunities. The four; Erich Schaefer, Max Schaefer, Bill Roper, and David Brevikwere thanked by Blizzard president Mike Morhaime for their contributions to the company. Blizzard also said that it does not believe that these resignations will cause any significant delays or have long-term negative effects on the Diablo series or other projects in development.

It's not the WoW team. Blizzard North are the developers of Diablo and some new unnamed game.

Erich and Max and Dave weren't involved in WoW to any real extent. And Bill Roper was a member of the team, but by all accounts, a fairly peripheral one.

WoW development is being done by Blizzard Irvine (where Warcraft was developed, not surprisingly) and should be 99 percent unaffected.

Having said that, it sucks that the guys who gave us Diablo won't be around for a theoretical Diablo III. <img src=">
