Here are 10 points that I have documented that will, in my opinion, make you a better EQ player. Please feel free to comment and or add to the list >D

10 ways to become a better EQ player.

1. Get hit points in every slot.

Do not worry about sacrificing intelligence and wisdom, or any other statistic, for hit points. In todays economy you can find many many items with any stat with hp/mana and resists all on one item. HP is the most important single stat for any character, period. The longer you can stay alive the more damage you deal. It doesnt matter how big your mana pool is, if you arent alive <img src="> Mana regen rate is much more important than mana pool size, because once its gone, its gone !!

2. Get to know all classes

It is important to know the abilities of other classes of members in your group, and what that person brings to the group. I am just talking the basics here. Mages can use badass pets, and summon things. Rogues do alot of damage (but smell!!). It is important to know which class casts which spell you need on raids and even in experience groups. This brings me to my next point..

3. Use tells.

I have seen so many situations in EQ where a simple tell would have saved alot of confusion and downtime, because someone muttered "i need a res" in the raid channel, or someone asked for aego in the raid channel, and ends up getting it from 3 people. Also, if you want to start a group, don't ask in guild channel if anyone wants to go to Seb, or start a group, because inevitably there will be 7 people that send you a tell, and then feelings get hurt when its an avoidable situation in the first place. Shift up and shift home, are your bestest friends, use them, heh. This again leads me to my next point...

4. Start your own group

Starting a group, for most classes, is not hard at all, especially with the new LFG tool. Instead of being LFG in guild chat or ooc or shout, just start a group. You would be surprised at how things go. You need to...

5. Know where to hunt

Knowing your limits in EQ is an acquired ability. It involves knowing what each class that you have recruited for your group can and cannot do. If you are not sure of where a good spot at your group, ask someone from your same class, or as the guild. Information is power, and information for the most part in EQ is free, you just need to know where to look. Asking people in game is great. Also, some websites are truly great resources. I frequent www.allakhazam.com almost exclusively for all EQ questions that I want a quick answer to.

6. Be generous.

Give away old junk that is hard to sell in the bazaar. It can really make a newbies day. You can meet some extremely nice people this way, and doing so has the potential to grow bonds that can be a great benefit to you and the entire guild. You know just how much it sucks to be a newbie, something with hitpoints, or a new weapon, is all it takes to get to level 10 or 15, etc. What goes around, comes around.

7. Use Maps

Even if you are the oldest of oldtime players, you should not go without access to zone connection maps and zone maps. Getting places quickly benefits the entire guild, the target is dead faster and things can progress to whatever is happening next, hopefully a new target, if on a raid. This leads into the next point..

8. Be on time

If there is a scheduled raid, please be there on time. It is to the benefit of the whole guild for people to be ready, sharp, and on time. Moral and efficiency increases. Quick fast fun plows is what makes this game great. If you are going to be late, send an officer a tell, and inform them you will be late. Chances are the right classes and numbers of people will have shown up on time to get things going quicky and smoothly without your being there, you will be fit right into the mix when you arrive. Again, use tells to arrange for a summon. This requires that you know necro/druid/wiz can evac to zone line, and that mages can summon you. Get those 2 to group and have yourself summoned in. Things go sooo much more smoothly when you take things into your own hands, using /tells.

9. Listen, and respect.

On raids, a select few people have the wonderful job of spamming the entire raid with what seems to be bossy bitchy whiny filthy death-to-you-all-or-else hitleresque slave driver quips. This is a really tough part of EQ, because people are people no matter what, and they bring their ego's to the game etc, and take offense to these 'commands'. Because of their hectic and dynamic nature, raids need to be orchestrated thru verbal commands, like "push with the tank to interupt heals", and "get it off the wall!!". You have to consider that these are things that have to be said to ensure raid success. Raid commands are NOT meant to be condescending digs on people. They are things that need to be said quickly and bluntly, need being the operative word. When a raid command is made, you need to understand it, and act on it appropriately. Please, dont consider it an insult or a command, its just the way things have to work. So please, if you want to raid, dont place hate on the raid leaders. Its a hard job. Respect their knowledge and leadership.

10. Do not focus on loot.

Loot happens. Thats about the best way you can approach loot on raids. Everyone at a raid basking in the glow of the kill worked hard for whatever drops, and no matter what system you use to split up loot, don't use public channels to vent frustration over loots. Don't even get frustrated if you can help it, because no matter who got the goods, the guild was just made better, and thats all that matters. You are nothing alone. Just remember that.
