I can't imagine what it must be like out there, even here in Vegas everything is hazy and you can smell smoke in the air...

Pretty sure Whiz and Pedi are ok, don't think they live close to SD but closer to the SF Valley.

The church where we got married was one of the buildings that should have been wiped out, but was spared the other night when Chatsworth was expected to lose 500 homes but lost zero.

Yesterday, smoke was so bad that we woke up feeling like crap from smoke coming through the windows overnight, and Pedi was still pretty poorly this morning (although we'd had the A/C on all day yesterday). Even at midday, it was as dark as sunset in Glendale all yesterday.

Things are better here at the moment, but Pedi's parents' (and the house she grew up in) are about a mile from the fire in the Antelope Valley, and people near her parents' have been evacuated already, so it's possible that they will be shortly, in which case they'll be staying with us.

But we're deep inside LA, and it would take a disaster of Biblical proportions for the fire to reach us -- North Hollywood north of us is a giant asphalt and cinderblock landscape, which burns rather more poorly than the scrub surrounding outlying suburbs and houses.

Not like sage brush and dead trees that required more water than you get in the desert do. Those are most of the fire at the moment. (People in SoCal love the weather but try and have lush green settings like back east, ignoring, well, the weather.)

Glad to hear you are still in good shape Whiz, and I hope that the smoke inhalation issues do not worsen (getting better would be preferable)

Asphalt does not burn, it melts. Its also a fun material to play with.

us Californians know that after a hot dry summer alot of the trees surrounding most of the cities, national parks, and general unpopulated expanses become powder kegs just waiting to errupt.

I have family in Escondido, San Diego and an ex-wife in Rancho Santa Margarita so Im following the fires closely.

Be safe Whiz and Pedi!

Glad to hear you guys are ok! Hope they get it put out quickly. The air in Phoenix has been affected and combined with that and a lovely virus, I've been down for the count the last 3 days. Thank Gods for Albuterol. Be safe you two and anyone else affected by this disaster!
