I'll give that a try. I need to see if I have a boot disc somewhere. BRB....

the only trouble you could encounter with FDISK is that it can't deal with NTFS partitions.

Well, when I try to FDISK, it says invalid command. Gonna search around and see if I can get a better boot disc maybe.

A bootable disk doesn't have any tools on it. If you do a recovery disk with Win 98 its pretty well setup with all the tools you need. Otherwise you can snag them from the c:\windows\command directory I believe.

Well, nothing seems to be working. Think I might just take the puter somewhere tomorrow and see if they can get into it and delete the partitions, although I would rather not. I appreciate all of these suggestions and help and welcome any more.
I've reformatted Win98 many times with a lot less hassle than trying to reformat XP. LOL

XP is no different then 98 unless you used NTFS. It is otherwise the same FAT16 / 32. If you have a NTFS partition then the best way to format it is usually the install disk for NT / XP.

Kanwer, are you trying to install Windows XP by launching setup from within Windows?

Secondly, I'll post a zip file of a Win98 boot disk when I get to work tomorrow and I'll give you instructions on how to delete the partitions.

If you still fail at getting the partition removed, you can remove the hard drive and ship to me and I'll fix it for you at no cost. Smile

I'm using the bootable XP Pro cd to reformat. It takes me thru the screenies you posted, but won't allow me to delete the C drive which I need to delete. It did create an F drive and installed XP PRo there, but I still have my original C drive and still can't delete it. I went to a couple computer places to see if anyone else had a clue and they all said the same things posted here.
I appreciate the offer to fix it, but I need it ASAP for school so I would have to fix it myself here somehow. Dunno how I got into this mess. Thanks for all the help posted here and keep the suggestions coming. We WILL figure this out!

Okay, since you're actually in Windows installed on the F: drive, try this:

Right-click on My Computer and click Manage.

Open up Disk Management on the tree.

On the right-panel after it initializes, right-click the C: partition and try to delete it.

Let me know what happens!

I tried that yesterday. The Delete Partition option is grayed out.
