On Test now: New NPCs in the Tox forest are giving out books to do research combines for level 50-60 pre-PoP spells.
On Live servers now: The research components are now dropping.
While it's possible some of these recipes won't make it live (the ubers who can do the Emperor of Ssra and VT are howling that the wizard nukes from there will be researchable, for instance), it looks like they're already halfway here.
If you start seeing new research items you've never heard of before -- save them. ">
(Oh, and for the record, I'm looking for runes of Ellipse, Glint, Coruscating, Scintillation, Opposition, Impulse and Tempest, myself. "> )

I have a few research components, noticed they started dropping in PoJ basement. No runes, just words so far. |

They had their exclusive time in the sun just as they're now hogging all the 63-65 spells ">
Btw...I suppose this only works for those classes that already had spell research before huh? ">

I strongly suspect that the WIS folks will be getting upped drop rates, new merchants or something as well. _________________

I think it would be neat to have quests to get those poorly implemented "Ancient" spells "> |

I disagree. I think Ancients are done perfectly, albeit there need to be more of them in the game.
Oh, and on the "what about the WIS casters" tip, I neglected to mention that one of the researchable spells is level 51 Levitation (/wave druids, shamans). Runes are Conglomeration and Current. _________________

I don't know, as far as I understand it, "Ancient" spells drop off of a VERY difficult mobs, and are NO DROP.
This means that you won't see them unless you're in the right guild. In other words, it doesn't matter how good of a player you are, it's all about who you know...which, makes it a poor implementation in my opinion.
I think there should be a way, either through skill or at the very least extreme patience, to acquire ANYTHING in a game...whether that game be multiplayer or single player.
------
I'm not really complaining though "> It's just one of those philosophical issues of mine with EQ ..hehe
Personally, I'm glad to see the researchable INT caster spells in the game. Sunstrike, for example, is WAY too rare.... |

I just want to see Malo and Torpor Whiz - you have to admit that these spells are not exactly dropping at any good rate. Who needs FEIGN death when I can do the real thing _________________ Is it paranoia when they really ARE out to get you? |

I have no problem with ancient spells and not ever getting those. I have the regular spell version and that is more than enough. It's like Moonfire and Ancient: Moonfire -- be happy you got the regular moonfire spell. If you're in a incredible raiding force, this is your reward and you get to save mana or nuke better than the average moonfire nuker.
I would rather have Ancients in the game than certain spells just not being available at all like Sunstrike. Whiz, would you have been happy if Sunstrike was more easily obtainable if there was Ancient: Sunstrike implemented as well?

Sorry, but that's spoken like a true soloer. There are just camps I can't farm or solo no matter how kick ass of a cleric I am. I rely on other people to be able to obtain stuff I need. That's the design of Everquest -- to work with other people for this stuff. How well you work with other people is the key to success. There are plenty of other games if you just want to be judged on how well you perform alone. Everquest isn't it. _________________

Well, they sorta DID have an Ancient: Sunstrike, only they called it Garrison's Superior Sundering, but it drops in the same places and at the same rate as Ancients. I was perfectly fine without it -- of course, if they make it researchable (like they are planning on) I'm also gonna be all over scribing it. "> _________________

I understand where you might misinterpret my thoughts in this respect. Certainly, I'm not talking about HoT armor, or epic quests -- all of which are non-soloable and require you to have assistance. I mean, I do solo for xp and that's just me; however, I don't think I've done a quest since level 20 for which I was able to solo..and I do a lot of quests ">
Don't take me wrong, I'm not saying I want to be in an uber guild. What I'm saying is that I wish VI hadn't designed the game to promote the notion of 'uber' guild. I don't see why 50 Walkers shouldn't be able to kill Grummus without as much trouble as it is (just to get a stinking flag so we can visit another zone). We're all great players, most have close to or more than 100 days on the account, and are strategically minded. As far as that goes, why shouldn't 50 walkers be able to kill any named in the game using that same logic? Why? Because the game is set up to make sure that you eventually group up with a certain set of people to see these zones/mobs...I disagree with that. It's as though they're dictating who you need to be with in order to progress in the game. Personally, I don't see why ANY encounter in the game should take more than 50 talented players...
I don't know....I'm not very good at explaining what I'm thinking in regards to this matter because although it's not selfishly based or anything, it tends to come across as so. Perhaps someone else feels similarly and can word it better.
And, we've hyjacked the thread..sorry Whiz! *zips*">

Hi guys,
Just barging in as an uninvited guest, hope you don't mind "> But I have a bone to pick with one of Whizbang's comments:
Quote: Well, they sorta DID have an Ancient: Sunstrike, only they called it Garrison's Superior Sundering, but it drops in the same places and at the same rate as Ancients. I was perfectly fine without it -- of course, if they make it researchable (like they are planning on) I'm also gonna be all over scribing it.
While Garrisons is like the Ancient spells in that it is somewhat out of reach for a non-raiding player, there are some important differences..
Ancient spells are no drop. Ancient spells come from Vulak or Vex Thal only. Garrisons comes from Emperor Ssra.. Possibly other ssra bosses now(?) haven't paid close enough attention there, I know the rare mage spell got put on other bosses too.
But otherwise yeah it is a bit like ancient sunstrike.
And for the 60 spells, keep killing Kunark Dragons hehe.. In my experience it was Severilious that dropped the most shaman spells but that could have been dumb luck. |
