For the love of all that is good in this world....

Lucas is starting to whine. I discourage it all i can.. but it just makes him whine more. The pitch can find me anywhere in the house and drive nails right into my eardrums. Add that to his on again off again phantom teeth coming through and I'm just about to say adios and move to Chili.. or someplace far far away. Now I know children whine... and thats something i can handle when he can UNDERSTAND me... puhlese fellow parents.. please tell me that as far as a baby is concerned.. this is a faze.. like the screeching... that startrs off often then fades into the once in a while... because if it dosent.. i'm taking my toothbrush and giving myself a hysterectomy right now.

I can attest that it's a phase.

I made it through it mostly intact, if a little less sane.

Ignore it, children only employ tactics that work.

Being single parent of three... *eyes youngest who doesn't go the school yet and is turning three today... sniff* Yes, it's a phase! LThey do that to get attention and reassure themselves that they are loved... as well as to get what they want. Best I can offer is to let child know that particular way won't work. Took me ignoring child doing so or sending them to their room until they could behave to get mine to cut it out... mostly... Now I'm stuck doing little things like turning lights on and off. Wait til they get to the screaching playtime laughter and shouts *shudders, is about to go buy earplugs!*

One more... one more and they're quieter.... they just talk back. Why did I ever teach them to talk!?

Have you ever been married? That seems pretty well.

My folks would disagree that it's a phase... I still whine at em Razz and I'm definitely not a toddler anymore Razz

Now for normal children.... it's a phase, hang in there! I've watched 4 nieces go through it, and while annoying, it does end eventually. Aunty Laddy's tactic: ignore it the best you can, and if they won't cut it out on their own, they get no fun and games until it stops. The girls usually cut it out real fast when they're not getting any mileage out of it.

hugs!

yep they is right..... am not a parent but a babysitter often and only way to make it stop is to ignore it and not reward bad behavior by giving attention or anything like that.... it sounds mean, but on the other side of it, make sure you reward good behavior!

on another note they don't necessarily grow out of it..... i have a 14 y/o sister that still whines.....

Absolutely right, figure out what they want before they realize it and set them up to give it to them as they use acceptable means.

My son was cured after about 3 months of me feigning dumb,

What? i don't understand? Use words. i can't understand you...

Say that a couple times and walk away and ignore them until they use words or properly ask. When he was not talking i used the sign language for eat while he was eating etc etc.. he still puts his hand in his mouth sometimes when he is hungry.

Side note. My kid is reading without realizing it. He picks up words he sees ussually mispronouncing them. i am so proud of him.

Awwwww..... My oldest is in kindergarten and he's starting to read me the books he brings home. My daughter even has me write her simple notes so she can take them to school to read like "mommy loves you" etc.

*sniff, grin* I'm so proud of them.

but all of those are for older children. My son is a baby.. 8 months old and he just discovered the whining ability. He dosent understand me when I tell him to use the power for good not evil.... it does seem to have lightened up a bit so I guess he got bored with it. When hes older and can understand the threats then I dont think... er.. i hope.. that it wont be a problem. THanks for all the advise guys!
