invalid page fault when loading EQ... EDITED

I had to wipe my hard drive again and after I installed EQ it will not let me get to the license screen. An invalid page fault comes up stating that eqgraphicsdx9.dll is the problem. I've been using the directx9.0c for some time and had not any problems until now. I've re-installed directx to no avail. Do I have to install EQ all over again? I hope not, it took me nearly 17 hours last time and will finally retire if I have to do it again lol. Any help would be most appreciated.
EDIT: re-installed eq, decided to give it a try (log-in) after luclin was installed, had no problems and made it to the character select screen. Downloaded the rest of the files thru OoW and had np loading EQ until I went to the 'options' screen. After unchecking several models and clicking 'finish' the game crashed. Now I cannot get back to the server screen and get the same invalid page fault whenever I try to reach the eula screen. /sigh
