Mt. St. Helens is slowly losing it today. Looks like she's errupting as i"m writing this. Just small plumes of steam and ash coming right now.
I'm just south of St. Helens in Vancouver, WA so this is kind of exciting. I'm hoping the ash doesn't reach here though. Looking at pictures from the 1980 erruption, it looked like a mess to clean up.
There was some live video going on at http://www.kgw.com. _________________ Geadiin ~ 67 Ranger

It was a mess to clean up. I lived in Independence Oregon then (about 70 miles south of Portland) and we were covered in Ash. Going East it was even worse.
In fact I still have some of the ash from then in little glass containers. |

I still have about 10 jars of ash from the 1980 eruption. It was pretty crazy we had about 2 inches of ash in the yard like it was snow, very wierd times. _________________ My Stable:

I bet with the 1980 eruption that it felt like a post-apocolyptic event or something. Everything grey and dark covered in ash. _________________ Geadiin ~ 67 Ranger

Thank your wife for the pics Geadiin.
Wow!
I remember how surprised folks were in 1980 that is was Mt St Helens that erupted and not Mt Rainer or Mt Baker or even Mt Hood which show signs of activity often. Have pictures somewhere that a friend took from a small plane a couple of days before the big eruption in 1980. _________________

They spotted glowing magma at the surface today. Here is a link to some really nice shots of the current steam eruptions. I don't see any with magma just yet though.
