Excuse me for being Captain Obvious here, but did he try talking with the tech support for his ISP? Most cable modem companies are very good about helping with connection issues, and they might even send a technician to your house to check the problem. _________________ Duke Sabrar Mournblood

i am using cable. The network cards aren't burned up, they work on other pc's. i am seeing a code 10 on installation of new cards. Happening in all pci slots. The sound and video card are working.
Anyone know if you can find your product key if its physically lost? |

i avoid any contact with outside people i don't know entering my home.
It's possible i have deleted some files that are necessary for my pci card.
The sound card get located and installed, so i don't think its a problem with my pci slots or motherboard.
In downloading the tool support on my xp disc i got an error on a malicous code.
migwiz.exe
i did find a useful site that had a product key finder
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm#How%20to%20access%20the%20Recovery%20Console:
So again i am trying a repair installation. Could this possibly not be putting back needed files that i may have deleted?

ok i think the problem is with the earthlink software. i am now connected and things seem fine, i disabled my norton internet security and virus crap also.
i uninstalled the earthlink software, and turned off auto update. i think one of the updating files were bad or something.
After installing from the disc with auto update off, i haven't had a problem..... yet |

After your service is activated, I don't see any reason to keep the Earthlink software installed, unless it has some neato spam-filtering feature you like.
Also, with a Linksys Router, you have no need to run Norton Internet Security. The router is more-than-likely performing all of the firewall protection you could possibly need.
As far as Anti-Virus goes, it's usually not a bad thing to run, unless you're gaming. Always disable antivirus software before you load a game.
Keep me updated on your problems. |
