This is in English. Before recovery of cpu I had the default homepage problem that Rocsalt had a while back. I found his post and what to do if it happens again.
This is the problem I am still having: When cpu locks up or I LD from game and have to do a hardboot, computer comes back up with the icons on desktop and fonts all changed to very very small ones. Sometimes if I re-start cpu it will fix it. Last night it didn't. So I went ahead and entered EQ anyways, when I logged off game, icons were back to normal ? Any clues on this ? I'm not sure if this is un-healthy or not to worry about it all.
(btw what is command for RUN to bring up all the system info, then I'll post the information on her to you if you need, dxdlog ?? or something like that I'm trying to figure out) _________________

Once more? How did you feel when you found his post and what to do if it happens ? Really. Did it really? ""? or something like that I am trying to figure out? When did you go ahead and entered EQ anyways when he or she logged off game icons were back to normal? _________________

There's several things I'd like you to check. The command you're looking for is dxdiag. That will run the DirectX diaganostic which basically probes your PC for all of its hardware and installed drivers. It does (to an acceptable amount of deviation) give a decent snapshot of your PC for tech junkies to start with when they can't see your PC directly.
There's a button that says "Save All Information" if I remember correctly that will allow you to dump a text file you can post.
Did you run Windows Update? That's an important step of formatting (CRAZY not to do if you're running an NT-based OS). The web site is http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
Also, in Windows 98, hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and write down the list of all programs you have running.
Lastly, open up your RUN prompt again and type msconfig. On the Startup tab, there will be listed every entry your system has for programs to run when it boots. Just of our curiosity, I'd like to know what is in that list. |

I know one is between zero and two but I had no idea it was 811630 Critical Windows update. Only some of them. _________________

Okay, first things first:
Install ALL of the critical updates. If your computer doesn't finish them all before it reboots, load Windows Update and start it again. Wash, rinse, repeat until you have (0) Critical Updates to install. I'll get started on the rest here in a few minutes. |

Okay, starting down the list, here's what I've come up with:
-Memory: 384MB RAM
If you can afford it, I would upgrade this. EQ runs like ass with 512 RAM, I couldn't imagine trying it with less than that. It is possible that your RAM slots are maxed out though, so while I consider this to be a major problem, it is probably the least viable to you.
Explorer - must keep
Loadqm - no idea what this is
Realplay - Realplayer Tray Icon thing, I fucking hate Realplayer (uninstall it if you can, unless you just really want Realplayer)
Directcd - Adaptec Ez-CD Creator Tray Icon - not much use for it, we'll take care of this in a minute
Vsstat - McAfee VirusScan background statistics module - good to run, but bad while playing EQ. We'll go over how to disable it
Stimon - I think this is Windows 98's image device monitor. If you use a digital camera, its probably not a good idea to remove this
Rundll - must keep
Ltdaemon - No idea what this is
Hidserv - No idea what this is
Msgloop - No idea what this is
Msg32 - No idea what this is
Everything that I said "No idea what this is" means that Windows 98 will run without it.
Now, onto the stuff you should uncheck in msconfig:
MoneyAgent - uncheck
Taskbar Display Controls - uncheck
ScanRegistry - leave as is
TaskMonitor - leave as is
LoadPowerProfile - leave as is
HPScanPatch - uncheck
hpsysdrv - uncheck
AdaptecDirectCD - uncheck
USBMMKBD - uncheck
TCASUTIEXE - uncheck
LT DAEMON - uncheck
Keyboard Manager - uncheck
VsStatEXE - uncheck
NvCplDaemon - uncheck
nwiz - uncheck
NvMediaCenter - uncheck
StillmageMonitor - leave as is if you have a digital camera (this is Stimon from the task list)
RealTray - uncheck (and uninstall unless you want to keep it)
LoadQM - uncheck
LoadPowerProfile - uncheck
SchedulingAgent - uncheck
Encompass_ENCMONTR - uncheck
Hidserv - uncheck
AolAcsDaemon1 - uncheck
American Online 9.0 Tray Icon - uncheck
Let's see what that does for you! |

FYI, msgloop.exe is used by the (really old) Crystal 3d Audio drivers. _________________ Herbert Dypp - EQ Storm Warden(Retired)
