Greetings all.
I just wanted to let you know i may or may not be on for a few days until I can figure out a major issue I am having here with EQ. My ISP suddenly went kerplunk (permenently -- they went under) so I have to find a new ISP. My roommate uses AOSmell and offered to let me share her internet connection.
I thought "Cool, I don't have to stop anything I am doing on account of this". Boy was I wrong. I didnt realize that AOL had some sort of huge fanatisicm about sharing the internet. Their silly little connection literally blocks anyone from sharing the connection on a network.
I did get around this, because I never did like AOL in the first place, and decided to smite this little rule in some way. Downloaded AnalogX Proxy and installed it on roommate's computer, turning it into a proxy server. Whee i am able to browse the net and check my email no problem. Everquest "loads" fine with the patcher and even patched when I tried this, but apparently at the signon screen I am not able to get through somewhere.
I keep getting the "Error 1001: Could not connect to the Everquest Server. Please try again later." DOH! Back to square one, since I checked and no one else is having any problems connecting, it must be this blasted AOL and this proxy.
Least to say -- I may not be on for a few, but PLEASE do not trash my application for membership!!!!! I will be on again as soon as I possibly can. Going to talk to the roommate tonight and see if we can get MSN up in here somehow and trash this AOL. I hope to be gone no more than a week.
Hope to see you all server-side again soon . . . .

Why didn't you realize that AOL had some sort of huge fanatisicm about sharing the internet? I heard they have a good silly little connection literally blocks anyone from sharing the connection on a network. I know what you mean, Knikolaes. I've been there. Yes, let us get back to Everquest loads fine with the patcher and even patched when I tried this but apparently at the signon screen I am not able to get through somewhere . What will you be talking about? I don't see the difficulty. Is you all server-side again soon a movie? _________________

Yeah that's right. Whoa. I think you mean "you're" or "you are" not "your". Thanks and you are a delightful person too. Am I a blonde lets talk about your dress? Sometimes. _________________

EQ won't go through a proxy. There's literally almost no way to do that. Even the people that have been able to pull it off can't make it stable.
Are you talking about AOL's dial-up service? If you're not hurting for phone lines, http://www.access4less.net offers unlimited service for $5.95/month. The only bad thing about it is that it disconnects you after 6 hours, after which you have to wait 60 seconds before you can connect again. Its only mildly annoying, 6 hours *is* a long time.
Its pretty tough to beat. The service (in my area at least) is not bad, I've rarely had bad lag or been disconnected completely. You can use the straight-up Windows Dial-up Networking to connect, also. If you are running Windows 2000 or XP, I would highly recommend you run the software firewall on this service, though. There's no filtering of any kind.
If phone lines ARE an issue, you can get an account with Access4Less and share that, so that your friend can connect to AOL through it. That configuration will work. I would just hope that he doesn't like to listen to AOL radio while you're playing. |

I will check that out tonight. 6 hours has got to be MUCH better than the 2 hours I would stay on this old one. Something told me that they were going to go out of service soon.
My roommate is the one with that card, but I have the cash. As soon as she gets home either today or tomorrow I will check that out and get back to being a Druid by your sides.
**insert withdrawl symtoms here**
On a GOOD note I used the downtime to make a nice 14 hour nonstop flight in my simulator from Denver to Frankfurt GOod thing my jet had music and an in-flight movie! (computer sitting next to this one with DVD Player **chuckle**) _________________ With Honor and Friendship Undying,
