This will sound stupid. When I went to XP I had to move my memory in my system around so the center slot was empty, otherwise I would crash to desktop periodically. (think mine was hardware related but who knows)
I also had an issue with sound and video drivers. Took quite a bit to get those worked out. |

Most current OEM motherboard, audio, video, NIC, etc. drivers. Never rely on MS to get it right, particularly with the aged driver sets that MS has for XP. _________________ Giasta

Stoneclaww: Ditto what Islena said. If you're continuing to have problems, post your dxdiag.txt and I'll try and hunt down your problem.
Swetch: Mention that name on this forum again and I'll ban you. _________________ Sage Shiloch Venzolmes - Arch Convoker - Walkers

If you connect through a router, check the firmware version and see if there are updates to it. Linksys routers were very prone to crashing EQ with older firmware bios. _________________

OK , so I said screw it. After yet another glitch where as I all of a sudden couldn't connect to the internet at all, I nuked my machine.
Exit Xp pro...enter 2k pro
running fine so far for last two days, even able to 2 box from 1 PC although a bit rough on zone times, but what can you expect running 2 EQ apps on 512 mem and 1 processor /shrug. _________________ Stoneclaww click the link....feel the gimpness for yourself

I'm glad that works for you. In all fairness, the only thing you really gain by using XP is the pretty interface. XP and 2000 have nearly the exact same codebase. Sure, XP is a little more user friendly in some areas, but there's no great loss to using 2000 over XP. _________________ Sage Shiloch Venzolmes - Arch Convoker - Walkers

Yeah, I only loaded xp because it was on hand at the time, I really only wanted the file system. Since 2k is the same file system I wasn't losing what I originally wanted so it's all good. I have had 2 EQ apps running nonstop in the bazaar for 2 days now on the same machine and have had no crashes so it seems to be solid. Not sure why the XP was screwy but at this point it doesn't matter with 2k running fine . It sure is better than the 98se I been running up until 3 weeks ago hehe.
Thanks for all the input guys _________________ Stoneclaww click the link....feel the gimpness for yourself

Eww... 98 SE needs to be upgraded for sure.
Outside of the fact that it is one giant security hole, it doesn't bring the stability that 2000/xp does to the table.
I'd still like to see your dxdiag... I bet I could tell you what your problem was just by seeing the file. _________________ Sage Shiloch Venzolmes - Arch Convoker - Walkers

I think it was an innocent victim when I got frustrated and nuked the machine but it may be on a disk I threw some stuff on, Ill check it out for ya mr. curious techie hehe.
2000 is very stable compared to 98 though, wow what a difference. _________________ Stoneclaww click the link....feel the gimpness for yourself
