from eqcastersrealm.com
Alan VanCouvering answered a short number of questions the Vault sent over recently. Here's a snippet:
Lepidus: The game mechanics are still among the best, but the graphics of EverQuest mark its age. Are there any plans to fully update the graphics of EverQuest to compete with other games?
Alan VanCouvering: Yes! We are already in the process of upgrading the EverQuest graphics engine. We will be making announcements as to its rollout in the next few months!
So at least the new engine is confirmed! We'll start digging around for some info on it for you!

...and we know how well the last engine upgrade went....that luclin rollout was soooooo much fun! |

Thank God this is finally confirmed.
Luclin wasn't a graphics engine upgrade, they just added in new high rez models and a new UI. As far as I know they made no significant change in how the engine actually worked.
They could make this game look lightyears better and still use less resources. The current engine is a massive pile of crap that they've been just adding more layers to over the years. A complete rewrite would make the game so much more smooth. |

btw - Luclin was a graphics engine change. I say 'change' because it wasn't much of an improvement over the old one. The only main difference was that it was updated then because the old graphics engine was tailored for the Voodoo (3Dfx) chipset, and they implemented a third-party engine that is more suitable for the nVidia and ATI chipsets.
However, if and when they put in a totally new graphics engine, don't expect it to perform any better than the current one, I'd expect that it will be more system-intensive and fully expect them to lay down higher system requirements. _________________ Sage Shiloch Venzolmes - Arch Convoker - Walkers
