From Castersrealm...
---------------
RUMOR MILL: NEW GRAPHICS ENGINE
We spoke with SOE to discuss rumors related to a new graphics engine being the main focus of the next expansion for EverQuest. In the course of our discussion we were told that the new graphics engine is 'hoped' to be something they can implement.
The new engine, according to Comptuer Games magazine, would replace all player models and significantly improve the visual appeal of the game.
SOE told us that at this stage they are still investigating just how much can be changed given the years of work with older zone art files. They also mentioned that they would prefer to avoid having to force EverQuest players to do major upgrading to their hardware to continue playing. |

IMO, the only changes they should be making to the graphics engine should be ones that would make the game smoother and more efficient on slower systems.
I think... that having a baseline engine that used really basic models (but where you could still sit on a mount whether it actually shows or not) that anyone could use on a raid if the video lag is just too much. Having good performance on raids is something no one experiences. _________________ Sage Shiloch Venzolmes - Arch Convoker - Walkers

I agree with you Shiloch; however, the general public seems to think that "pretty pictures = better game" ...nowadays. It drives me CRAZY! |

The EQ engine is a horrible horrible piece of trash and I strongly oppose anything making it even MORE bloated.
But if they clean it up along with the graphics update, however, that I'd approve. _________________ RETIRED 65 Lizard Enchanter |

Luclin's down fall for me was when they moved to DX8 and screwwed up sound. My god nothing I could do would fix it. everything went to hell in 1 patch. I remember getting that patch and sound studdering was so bad I had to play with no sound. At that point I built a new pc with windows 2000 and it was even worst. I had a sound blaster live cards at the time. On the 2000 pc I had to force the sound card to have it own IRQ and that help but music would start to studder after 20 mins of play. Turned off music and everything was better but not music .
