Hey all. I'm looking to get a Multi Functional Device and looking for any advice as to what to look at. I'm prepared to spend up to $400. Anyone have any experiences good or bad with any? I've been looking at HP, Brother and Canon mostly. _________________ "I might be a little bit loco, but it keeps me from losing my mind."

Having some experience with MFD's, I want to steer you away from Brother's devices.
Brother uses water-based inks on their inkjet printer systems, and if this goes for an extended period of time without one of the specific color cartidges being used, it will hose the printer head. Its very hard to clean, and in some cases, can't be cleaned at all. I've REPLACED two printer heads on those things. They wear very easily, and in general are poor printers. The software they use to bundle the scanner in for use with the computer is pretty rinky-dink, also. If I were the purchaser, it would have left me wanting more.
I don't have much experience with the Canon products, but only because I've never known anyone to actually buy one.
Any type of scanning/printing device you get from HP will be good. They have had a history of releasing bad products, but they are quickly discontinued, or they release "mod kits" for free which repair the manufacturing defect. (i.e. the HP LaserJet 1100)
If you want my advice, get one of the HP ones. AND, go for scanner/printer/copier and if you want a fax, get a separate machine. I've been in many, many scenarios where using a fax with the MFD just caused more problems than it supposedly solved (typically people wanting to conserve desk space).
If you can, avoid getting one that is EPT port-dependent. Get one that uses USB, or even Ethernet. The transfer speed on the printer port is better than what it used to be, but you'll quickly learn to appreciate more modern methods of data transfer when you try to scan something using your printer port. _________________ Sage Shiloch Venzolmes - Arch Convoker - Walkers

I have the HP psc 1210 all-in-one, and it rocks the known universe. It was also a BEST BUY selection from CONSUMER REPORTS.
