Problem with onboard sound cards is if you're really comcerned about CPU utilization On Board use alot more of your processor than an Audigy 2 will.

my creative labs soundcard is definately not satin. it doesnt even look slightly silky.

Asus A7NX8 Deluxe has hardware sound on the board. Doesn't really use CPU cycles and it's surround. Also has 2 LAN ports, 6 USB2.0, firewire, and if you want, RAID serial ATA available. Very overclockable board but it is a little pricey. Uses the NForce 2 chipset btw. Is what I'm using and I'm pretty happy with it.
