Are all your internal fans happy ? Just wondering if this could be a heat problem. I know folks who have heat problems with similar problems. I assume this was a running machine ?

Ok all i have been pulling my hair out over this for over a week now ...

Problem : My everquest freezes randomly for about 20 secs to a min .. and then returns to normal. i was on for about 15 mins yesterday and it did it 5 times. I can be sitting running facing a wall it doesnt matter.. ( i even made a new char and ran around the Q newbie zone and it did it )

I have a 1.7p, with 512 ram, nvidia 32mb ram vid card.
this machine is connected directly to the cabel modem and has another nick card in it going to the router (so i can hook the laptop up to it ) {which i might add has no problems}so this shouldnt be a router problem becase it does it with the laptop connected or disconnected

I have updated vid draivers sound drivers
Done all windows updates
ran spy ware removed all of that
ran AVP and removed anything that comes close to a virus
Deleted (ran defrag) and reinstalled all of EQ
moved hardware acceleration down 2 notches from full.
I have played with the mipp mapping cacheing options in EQ but nada
I have windows XP .. and have checked for anything running in the background and cant find nada

PLS help me .. this issue is so bad it makes it impossible to play

Have you brought up task manager and looked to see who is sucking up the CPU time ? If its EQ I would strip and load if not kill the process thats sucking up your time. ">

and i have already reinstalled EQ

When you are hung in EQ is everything hung or just EQ ? You see no one at that point sucking CPU time ?

Sorry no idea... I had the same behavior some ago, but it went away when I had to change my DSL modem, however it is not proven he was broken as many thing changed at the same time.

Is your internet (web surfing) working ok when EQ froze? From the same PC? Another one?
Do you see any packet lost on the PC? Have U check the ethernet cable? just my 2 cc... not really any good idea

Well when this happens i am runn eq full screen so i cant tell if the whole machine is frooze .. it will do this even after the machine has been off all day while i am at work but i will see if i have happy fans when i get home.

web seems to work fine. and eq runns fine (until it freezes ) .. no lag spikes or anything.

no packet lose at all (at least eq ping gage doesnt show any)

and i am using the admin log in ...

can you give more details regarding your videocard and mainboard?

James, the question that comes to mind first is... does this problem ever happen when you are not running eq?

Some fixes off the top of my head...

- try removing your current video card from your system devices. right click on my computer and select properties or going to control panel and selecting system. go to the device manager and remove all video cards (hardware/device manager/display adapters). also, at the top of that screeen is a view option, make sure after you remove the video card that you make sure that if there are hidden adapters (view/show hidden) that you remove them also. Shut down your puter and restart - use the drivers from the original cd or use the drivers supplied by windows. Try eq and see if its fixed.

- do start run and type in dxdiag then hit ok. what version directx does it say? It should be directx 8.1 i believe. Select the display tab and run the diag tests. If you continue to have probs... click on more help tab and select msinfo copy the contents of the right window and post it on this thread or email it to me at dp@wwfm.com also send to me or post the info that you see when you click on components/display.

I would be careful about using new drivers for your video card - i mean anything other than what was installed from the original cd or what was installed by windows also, upgrading directx higher than 8.1 could pose problems.

Well thanks all for the help ..

I think i got a temp fix for it i moved the machine to the outside of the desk and removed the cover.. and it seems to be running better.. i think what happened is it just kept getting to hot to many times .. and now its just starting to show signs.. we have e a cat and when i opened it up almost all the air holes were clogged up .. so we will see how it runns for a few days like this
