UNWISE.EXE

I understand that this is an uninstaller. It is wreaking havoc on my machine and using up a ton of resources. Aside from that, its making a Windows Beeping sound every 4 seconds or so.

The only places I have found this file is in:

C:/windows
C:/programs/HPSupport

I hate to just delete these, but what else can I do?

Running Windows XP btw.

Thanks Fieni - only issue is that I cannot seem to get the registry to save my changes now. I delete the lines and they re-appear when I reboot. ">

U cleaned the start up file?

Correction: I saw it was said win ME only... I am guessing it start it also another way on XP...

there is other thread involving the same exec. U found the exact same keys in the reg?

Okay - I removed the Trojan. Now, my computer is still looking for the Unwise.exe file (maybe because it is still in the registry).

I moved Unwise.exe from another file to Windows (where it was looking for it) and now I get "Could not find INSTALL.LOG file".

WTF!!!

This means I cannot launch any major programs including EQ. "> "> ">

click start button
then click run
then type in sysedit
this will launch the system configuration editor.

Then do a search for the file in all the four windows.

2 other places that it can hide to reinstall or launch itself

click start button
then click run
then type in regedit.
