Connection Speeds

I am switching to cable instead of DSL. My DSL company sucks ass so I was wondering what type of access you all use?

Tried DSL when AT&T offered the $39 a month deal and with the home network it really sucked. If one person was playing a game online and one of the other computers were dl'ing from the net it would pretty much kill both computers transfer rates. With the cable modem we really never had a problem. (except for paying the cable bill every month) "> Never tried DSL with a router though and that might make a big difference but I wasn't impressed with it.

I too have had both DSL and cable modems and would have to agree that the cable modem is a better service, though usually a little more expensive.

Believe it or not Cable is cheaper than DSL. Trying to save an extra 5$ here and there. I have begun buying Baby formula VERY expensive!! This kid is gonna cost me a fortune grow up and quit college on me too. Then he or she will say "Dad yer wacked, You haven't even past level 43 on Everquest 12"

cable is better than DSL..I know someone who has DSL and has a hard time with it. Cable is nice, fast, uless your trying to play EQ that is.

DSL is way better than cable. Cable is faster if you're the only one on it, but very quickly, once other people log on, you are noticeably sharing bandwidth with them. A friend of mine (sort of psycho) had BOTH for a while and quickly decided cable was ass. (He lives about a block from us, so our experience would be identical if we switched over.)

You never share the bandwidth with anyone else with DSL.

The cable connection we've had here has been a godsend. I have yet to hear of any DSL that outpaces it any time of day. Plus, it tends to be cheaper and easier to install (my dad's currently trying to get a $180 DSL disconnect charge off his phone bill for a service that he never received. He's not real happy with - I think it's Verizon - right now). OTOH, I live in a rural area and it's very possible that DSL is noticably faster in the cities.

Also, /agree with Whiz on the router for any broadband connection if you have multiple computers. I'm dealing with a freeware proxy right now, but if I had the cash I'd get the router b/c the proxy is a big pain to deal with (and doesn't let me play EQ on it).

I just play at work where there is kick ass PCs and T1 !!!
That's me, except when I'm at home, which is usually no more than 24 hours of the entire week. I use a dial-up there. Since I am hardly ever there, I can't see the point in upgrading.
