I've seen many world competition on TV in different country, but here, the coverage of such event really sucks.

In the US, they spend more time on stupid tear-jerker profiles than they do the games. Apparently we only care about events with Americans in them, and not even most of them. Stupid. I remember loving to watch the skiing championships as a kid, even if all the winners were (West) Germans, Austrians and Canadians.

Here in Canadaland, the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp.) picked up on the Saline-Pelltier (sp) scandal and have generally done a good job of reporting without it getting too political. But we were really pissed off for those few days.

Having fun watching the Russians threaten to pull out of the Olympics with the Women Ice Skating upset though. Read all about it on CNN!

You know, at least in America, we are supposed to have the separation of church and state, right? It seems to me that sports and politics is a pretty bad mix as well. If the Russians pull out of the games, I'm going to feel really sorry for those Russian athletes who couldn't care less about the cold war, and just want to have their shot at competing in the Olympic games. It's just too bad that politicians only really care about stroking their own egos and not about the people they're meant to represent. Most of these people have worked their asses off and trained with a level of dedication that most of us will never be able to comprehend for the sole purpose of showing the world what they're capable of, whether or not they bring home ANY medal, much less a gold one. It really pisses me off that someone would steal that opportunity away from their own countrymen/women.
