How do you feel about inspections?

Leopa if not for Azil id say you have the strongest um objection to it. One time when we was in Halas, someone came up and inspected her. She pointedly did a emote and said somethings, and the guy said somethings back. At the time we was spose to be running back to Cazic-Thule I beleive, but ended up in a hour-2 hour discusion in ooc about it. Well other discussed, she told I suppose. And I feel the same way, it is rude from total strangers to spam inspect or run up and inspect and then say "what you want for so and so".

I f'ing hate it with a passion. It's a controversial subject, but I still stand firm. It's rude if you don't ask first. I don't say anything when people inspect me and move on, but it still annoys me. I don't want to turn off my inspection messages because that's like turning a blind eye to what's going on around me. When someone repeatedly inspects you, you know something's coming -- a port request or whatever. Or you know that you've got something this person wants or whatever. It just lets you know something's up, that's all.

The real reason why I hate inspects is because it's been used as a form of harrassment a few times in the past. A group of n00b halfling jerks were bothering Whizbang (back at level 14) by KSing him and I came around and told them to stop. They all went up and inspected me. Then did it again. I asked them to knock it off. Then I was flooded with a bunch of inspect messages. I know calling it "inspect rape" is a strong statement, but it's how I felt. It's a violation of my privacy when you do this repeatedly.

I have nothing against inspects, but I do have a problem with the way it's handled. I prefer to be asked first. I would also prefer to be able to do /otherinspectme off so I can deny others the chance to inspect me if I wish. It's really no one's business what I wear.

Sorry to come on so strong about this, but I've been in this situation too many times. People need to learn what respect means.

I hate it with a passion... so much so that I turned the message off. But I love standing at the orc lift, and getting messages like "how much u want for that stein?" or "what's stats on that belt?" *grr*

I'm thrilled when people have the courtesy to ask, and so that I don't accidentally make a hypocrite out of myself, I keep autoinspect off.

and I believe the in-eq command is:
/inspectmessages off
but that's a wild stab in the dark, 'cuz I used EQu to set it for me....

It really doesn't bother me. It's no skin off my nose if someone I don't know is curious what I'm wearing or carrying (especially since I'm hardly uber, and am not likely to get bothered much by bids for my gear). I'm always appreciative if they're polite and ask first, but if not.../shrug. They're welcome to see just how poor and underequipped I am. ">

Alph, you've been lucky. I used to get constant requests to buy my not-exactly-rare Stein of Moggok.

Now, though, people just sort of snicker at me for having it.

I find that's it's exceedingly rare that someone 30+ will inspect me without warning, and even then, it's usually just to figure out what my black leather armor is, although people are starting to figure it out, as lots of gnome casters seem to be taking on the look for part of their career. (I'll go back to robes the moment I get a jumpy robe!)

I don't mind it so much, but I do get annoyed when a newbie will do it repeatedly! That's when he/she gets a polite msg from me saying something to the effect of "Do you realize that some people consider it rude to continually inspect them?" To which the person in question usually apologizes.

Typically though I'm asked if I mind being inspected or if I would show them a particular piece of equipment; my shield.

OK what Faddo is referring to is i was spam inspected by this rude arse punk in Everfrost once, Qyenos had gone down and we were waiting it out at the BB ent, i did an emote somewhere along the line of i pulled my tunic tighter around me suddenly feeling violated...
then the "discussion" began, LOL
Faddo telling me just don't say anything,(over and over) then he went to .ok you have had your say, lets go....then it was please stop now...lol...then he was sure i was gonna end up dueling...
the spam inspector dude well he remains on my list today!

heh actually i don't mind being inspected, by Walkers it is NO PROBLEM especially...
otherwise all i ask is the courtesy of being asked, and if you are curious bout something in particular, just ask, i will show it to ya!
