I just finished watching "Children of Dune", and really enjoyed it. I understand that it, plus the first movie, takes me through the first 3 books of the Dune Saga.

Could someone tell me which of the books I would read next? I know the movie is nothing like the books, etc...however, I'd just rather move forward at this point rather than re-hash what I've already been through Smile

Ok the series goes as follows

Dune
Dune Messiah
Children of Dune
God Emperor of Dune

At this point I would give up as the series get crap but,

Heretics of Dune
Chapter House Dune

there is also a prequel series written by various authors (Frank Herbert being dead) thank fully son of Frank Herbert has not miraculously found the way to stretch the series into about 50 books Christopher Tolkien style

I dunno..I feel like you should give the sci fi channel script to the actors in the David Lynch Dune, and then you would actually have something.

I agree with you there Rudee - the movie had so much removed from it that it was too choppy and there was no flow

True to the books or not, I've never seen the execution scenes so fully terrible as in the Sci Fi version.

I did not get to see the movie when it was on but had the VCR tape going (I was playing EQ - got to have one's priorities!) But I did catch the last few min. I had to stay up and watch it again just to see the execution scenes again.

It made quite an Impact on me.

The priest who realizes his fate and begins to struggle is quite horrifying.

The Bene-G. who sees her fate coming down the hallway towards her and is powerless to stop it.

The guild navigator who tries to swim into the far corner of his aquarium as they hammer the glass.

Yes, it was truly horrifying.

That was just the end of part 2 Jullious ....the end of the movie itself is simply stunning, in my opinion ....breathtaking if you are "into it" at that point.

Can't even remember the end of the movie for it is overshadowed by those scenes IMO. I look forward to seeing how they handle Leto II's fall from the bridge. I imagine it will be just as sad. I don't think the end of the movie was so stunning, a duel, a little diplomacy, a false marriage, a second class concubine. Nothing like the earlier human tragedy.

There are also a series of books written after Dune, but take place before the origional Dune in the timeline of the story. They go House Atrietes, House Harkonen, then House Corinna. (I probably messed up the spelling of each of those) The latest set (which again goes even further back in the timeline) starts with The Butlerian Jehiad. Two other books are supposed to be out after The Butlerian Jehiad, but aren't out yet. I highly recomend these two sets of books if you liked the origional Dune; very good books! <img src=">

The second set, by Kevin Herbert (son of Brian) and Paul Anderson, reminded me a lot more of the first Dune book - plot moves a lot faster than it does in the last couple books of the original series. I swear the last two books were torture and I just muddled thru (omg that Leto the worm shite was some torture in pacing - please let something happen, anything).

Lots of Bene Gesserit though in Chapterhouse which was my favourite part, and the House Atreides set tied up a ton of loose ends.

I ordered the Butlerian Jihad and am looking forward to it. Tonight I'm about to watch the beginning of Children of Dune on DvD for the first time <img src=">
