OK yes I know it was stupid but in some ways it was one of the most enjoyable evenings of my EQ career.

I set the scene - dull night I go to Chardok and the ZI is open - yay another night of interesting solo keeling"> . Then I get the call

stranger - "Do you want a planes group?"
Trab - "sure which plane?"
stranger- "Fear"
Trab is stunned and starts salivating over epic piece dropping at his feet.
Trab - "whats the target"
stranger - "No target, just xp"

At this point alarm bell start clanging - xp in Fear? Methinks somebody is big time. Nobody can be that stupid - right? This guy must have a plan - right? He knows another guild is in there or has been in and cleared a good part - right?

With these thoughts I meet them at the Ferrott portal and off we go. I ignore the warning signs - like "Who knows were the Fear portal is?" "what does it look like?" - Hey I know plenty of good EQ players that cannot wipe their ass without directions.

I get to PoF portal and I see an old friend from Triality - further solidifying my thought that somebody has cleared some of the place. At this point though, I get a quick burst of sense and I tell the SK to go in and FD - clever huh? In he goes and tells us "if you all come in together you should be good"

So in we go, my first thought as I zone in to a fight is that there is only one MOB there - cool. Then I notice that the SK is NOT feigned - he is dead, my warm fuzzy feeling starts to disipate, how could he tell us the zone in is safe(ish) if he is not IN the zone. As the thought "oh shit" goes through my tiny Barbarian mind I see that the camp is now full of other stuff - and I mean full - so of course we die.

I reappear in BW at the chardok zone line (I have to change my bind spot someday) and start the long run back. During the course of my run back I hear the following sorts of talk

"lets zone in and drag the corpses to a safe spot for rezzes" (safe spot? in Fear?)
"this shouldn't take too long"

At this point I start to inform them that if fear is unbroken we could be waiting a good 2-3 hours. They are stunned - the final grip I have on my optimistic feelings is released - these folks are Fear NEWBS OMFG - I am the most experienced person there and this is my fourth time in. I ask what plan do we have for recovery and I get the "thousand yard stare" - you know the one - where folks look right through you like you are not there! Well I say that folks better get all they can to help. I ask my guild - they are quality folks (I try NOT to say it was an xp group), they laugh at me some (I deserved it) but folks are generally in the middle of stuff and that they will help in a few.

Of course to us patience is a card game not a virtue. My group is trying to kill Cyndreela by buying her in corpses, but she doesn't smother - biatch.

Folks from numerous guilds assemble and in we go for recovery - we WILL zerg fear...or not. Only one cleric - no crowd control...down we all go. Three groups worth of death packed at the zone in - except for those the scarlings sent elsewhere. Now my humour is fading a tad (its late), and through my laughter I beg my guild for help plz0r.

To the rescue come Walkers - YAY. IN less than an hour, smackdown has been issued to Fear and corpses are rezzed. Seeing the thanks being given to my guildmates I am proud to be wearing the tag - of course I am sure they are not proud of me.

Thank you very much Rudee for mobilising the rescue squad and thank you Walkers for your help.

As a passing note, as we gated out somebody in my group said..

"I got half a blue of xp in here"

...that proves my point - you CAN xp in fear

Nuking yourself is always funny, falling down the gorge in WW on follow without lev is always good for a few laughs, and, of course, there is starting an exp group in Fear

Pedi - my wife was one of the dead from the first rescue attempt. I know I will never live it down - why do you think I posted this in the general section? The whole thing was funny as hell, best to share the humour.

It's kinda like going to a hole group, and lev'ing your way down the big pit near Paineel to get there... Not that I've done that before.

HAHA... that was me that said I got 1/2 blue of xp. So yes getting xp is possible, however I don't think I could recommend it.

My heart went out to you when I saw your predicament. I had one of the longest CR's my first time in Fear. It lasted about 11 hours, and was almost the end of Rudee...I died something like 9 times in there. I most certainly lost a level, but at least Ulrich proved that you can be level 45 in a plane because he got Rezzed in after losing a level as well. Im glad everything worked out in the end.
