From EQLive:
With this patch we introduced the ability for intelligence casters (Enchanters, Magicians, Necromancers and Wizards) to create additional spell scrolls using their research skill. Many of the newly researchable spells have only been available from quests or killing NPCs in the past. The new research still requires components from risky locations or dangerous foes. Our goal is to increase the number of ways to earn rare spells, without reducing the challenge required.
This, however, creates a bit of an inequity between the intelligence casters and the priest classes (Clerics, Druids and Shaman) when it comes to acquiring this type of spell. While there is nothing inherently wrong with different classes earning their spells in different ways, we don't see a reason to give more options to one type of caster than another. In this case, we have taken the opportunity to give the research skill a little more value and at the same time negate any imbalance between classes.
Some time in the near future we plan to introduce recipes for the creation of certain spells for the priest classes. Intelligence casters can use their research skill to create these priest spell scrolls, and priest classes will benefit by having an alternate method for obtaining these spells. This helps out both priests and intelligence casters, and creates a new niche for research as a trade skill.

I hate to say it Whiz, but Malo is like 60k? Something like that - do the combines for 10k and you would be rollin in more plat than JetX Who needs FEIGN death when I can do the real thing _________________ Is it paranoia when they really ARE out to get you? |

There is no reason, at all, for any spell, of any type/level/class to be more than 20k. I will pay 20k for some of my more desireable 63-65 spells; however, nothing will entice me to pay more "> |

Well, it's 60k now. There are Bazaar addicts right now with their eyes flashing platinum frantically levelling up froggy alts to take advantage of this.
There are probably about 50 casters on Vazaelle with 200 Research right now (for a VERY long time, only Evasto and I had wizard research maxed), and by the time this change goes live, I expect that number to be closer to 200 (anyone with 40 levels of unspent practice points and a big bag of plat can max this, if they're level 55 or above), and grow from there.
The spell prices are going to plunge, and not just because there are people like me who will be doing combines of Torpor, Malo, GSS, EER and all the rest for free, either.
I've ridden the rollercoaster ride of tradeskills in the Bazaar before, and the ride always ends up at sea level eventually. _________________

Well, even the wizard nukes off Emperor Sssrarararraraaalalaladingdong and other Luclin bosses are researchable now. Only one wizard spell (Disintegrate) seems NOT to be, so I think it's highly unlikely that Malo and Torpor won't be, along with BotA and all the rest of the goody spells. (Yes, yes, including Moonfire, which still sells for about a 10th of the cost of Sunstrike, for all its alleged rarity.) _________________

Moonfire isn't rare at all. It drops a lot off of both the ssra Rhaq mobs and even off that gimp dude in Akheva.
Sunstrike IS rare however, and I never understood why it was so much in relation to other 60 spells (even KEI is less rare than sunstrike). |

"Sunstrike IS rare however, and I never understood why it was so much in relation to other 60 spells (even KEI is less rare than sunstrike)."
Cause no ever camps emp in in seb long enough to get his spell drops. You have to kill his place holder to get him to spawn and even then it can be up to 2 hours to see him. The emp is the easyest mob to kill to get sunstrike. Most dragons take more then one group. I think flaming Sword of xuzl is even more rare never ever saw it for sell. Oh well they hate us wizards.

Wizards reseach Druid spells
Chanters-(go figure, no more bitching about huggies killing KEI sales, go make some malo and torpor) make shaman spells
Necros? I hear make cleric spells
Mages?...not a clue.
